  • What does it mean to be a "certified" market?
To be a certified market means that all the farmers have registered with the county Agricultural Commissioner's office. They have specified exactly what they grow and where they grow it. They have paid a fee, and signed an agreement that allows a county agriculture official to inspect their farm to ensure that they are growing what they sell. The purpose of this is to protect the consumer against “peddling”, or purchasing produce from somewhere else, marking up the price and reselling it at a farmers market.
